One-Day Plein Air Workshop with Susan Gallacher

We will start at 10:00 am at the Brighton Fire Station for a painting lesson and demo with Susan. Meet at the south end of the parking lot near the Brighton Lodge. We’ll take a short lunch from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm and then go out for you to paint on location. If you need help with your set up, Susan will help you and give suggestions about where to paint. This will be a fun, informative day of painting that will help you at whatever level you are.  

This workshop is FREE. Registration is required and is limited to 15 participants.

RECOMMENDED ART SUPPLIES 

  • Oil Paints: Titanium White, F. Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Yellow Ochre, Cad. Yellow Med. or Light, Cad. Red Light, Alizarin Crimson, And your favorite colors such as: Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Viridian Green, Cad. Orange, Ult. Violet etc.

  • Solvent: Odorless Turpenoid or other good solvent and holder.

  • Painting Surface: The best for outside is gessoed MDF hardboard, or gessoed canvas panels. One panel from 8x10 to 12x16 inches or two 6x8. Stretched canvas has to have a piece of cardboard behind it or the sun shines through.

  • Easel: A good solid French Easel or other Field Easel you like.

  • Please bring your hat, field chair, sunscreen, paintbrushes, small garbage bag and paper towels.

  • If desired, a field umbrella, bug spray and a cooler for drinks are also handy.

  • For painting, wear comfortable clothing that is not a bright color as the color can reflect onto your canvas and affect your color sense.
